Humans have long loved to live in a society. Right from the days our fore fathers took to agriculture , we have been living in various forms of loosely or tightly coupled associations. The closest association probably has been the family. When a male and female get together through some sort of social and/or legal ceremony and start their reproductive etc. lifecycles.
However, humans havenot stopped at the family unit of associations. An average urban citizen is associated with some sort of a Club/Circle , also may be some part of some sort of Professional Association , like Chartered Accountant's Scoiety . He may be an active member of some hobby club/ cultural society etc. The more ambitious guys may be part of Trade Unions, Political Parties etc. With the advent of Social Networking in the Cyber Space, the scope of Virtual Associations have become literally limitless.
So coming back , on a friday we were having a nice party thrown by the Cognizant Business Consulting Team , when all of a sudden , during an Introduction session , every third person started saying that he is a part of NCC.
Now , NCC to me stood for National Cadet Corps , some which I was part of during my first year in IIT and have some happy/sad memories of it too. But , defitinitely this NCC was something different to which most of my colleagues appeared to be associated with.
A friend of mine , standing next to me gave away the answer. It's Newtown Cricket Club dude !!! Ola , and he added too : Its Calcutta , every one needs to be part of an Association here :D Funny to the core , but extremely true... No doubt , this City of Joy , is the most 'Community Friendly' city in India. It loves to celebrate Durga Puja in the grandest scale , and within 15 days , takes on Kali Puja /Diwali. The Calcuttans celebrate 2nd October by going to Picnics and soon comes Christmas and New Year , when the Park Street is filled with Youngsters in Red Caps (Imitating Santa) and merrying around in discs/pubs/malls and sometimes just the roads , baring the winter.
Today was 25 th December , and I took my wife first for a movie . The Tickets were already sold out yesterday . So we though of driving to Park Street and have dinner in Moulin Rouge. Unfortunately , there was no scope of finding parking slots for my Suzuki Dzire in Park Street . So , finally settled for Jimmy's Kitchen's nice chinese food on EM Bypass......
Nice way to end the Burra Din i believe.......God bless all of us !!
